01. Total volume of music files on my computer:
only about 8200 files, geez. i feel like i have almost nothing...i delete a lot of stuff...
02. The last CD I bought was:
Karate - In the Fishbowl
Grandaddy - something or other, i regret buying it...someone had once mentioned that i would like them...it was a while ago. i didn't.
03. The last song I listened to before writing this was:
Sonna - We Sing Loud Sing Soft Tonight
05. Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
(In no particular order)
1) t-shirt weather - the lucksmiths. it is just the ultimate feeling good in the summer time song for me.
it automatically makes me need to be driving down the road with the windows down and pretending that my arm is a blade cutting through poles, and trees and signs and mountains. then i get an ice cream cone.
2) bang - blur. this song automatically reminds me of high school. it takes me back to a time when everything was totally over the top and dramatic and we were all so sure that we were brilliant, beautiful and destined to be famous.
3) punk as fuck - american analog set. this band came into my life not long after breaking up with my girlfriend of five years. i'm laying in a foreign bed in the middle of the night, next to someone else, there is some soft yellow light cutting across the ceiling and i'm smiling because i am free and everything is new.
4) head - lotion. this is a song from the point of view of the family dog after the owners have had a baby. the dog is sad and confused and misses all of the love it used to get before the god damn baby came along. the dog wants to be free so that he can go roam the world looking for someone new to love him, he knows it's out there. that dog rules.
5) song for my sugar spun sister - the stone roses. when i was little my sister and i made a mixtape and this song was on it. this was one of my favorite songs on there. it took me forever to find out who it was, and i found out about it on accident. i bought the stone roses album because i thought i should probably have it and when this song came on my heart stopped for a moment because i realized i had found the best band of all time.
06. Five albums I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:
(In no particular order)
1) copper blue - sugar. my sister would say that -this- is the best rock album of all time, she would be wrong. but it is a damn fine album and i spent a lot of time growing up listening to it over and over again. i used to worship bob mould, which seems to be how you like him: you either worship him or you don't really listen to him much. i felt that he was the most profound amazing rocker of all time, and this album totally proved it. it is still a pretty good album, if not a bit cheesey, but good cheesey. mid 90's indie rock at its finest.
2) the glow pt.2 - the microphones. this is my favorite album ever. i think that phil elvrum is a genius, his lyrics and compisition are pretty dang ol' radical i would say. the way he works with the equipment he has available to him is pretty great and i think this is the top of his game. the album just blends together, not necessarily into a cohesive story but a really full listening experience. it's pretty intense.
3) second toughest in the infants - underworld. this is the album that i first really got into when i was getting into electronic music. it's still one of my favorites, underworld was pretty dang brilliant for a while, i think.
4) sci-fi lullabies - suede. i know. i'm sorry, even now i can somehow still listen to this gay glam trash crap. the songs have such an amazing effect on me still. i listened to this album over and over again during the toughest period of my life, and it cushioned and comforted me the whole time. so, you know, thanks to suede for making me feel ok about wearing black clothing all the time and writing horrible poetry.
5) full isaac - lotion. lotion is this band that no one ever seems to have heard of. which is too bad because they were an awesome band that i think everyone needed to hear. they put out three albums, an ep and a couple singles, and i have them all, and they are all good. their lyrics were weird puzzles that you had to decipher and their music was just rockin' enough and just sad enough and just weird enough to propel you through their albums over and over again.
07. Which 5 people are you passing this baton to, and why?
